Death Korp of Krieg pt.1 Tread Heads

This week we bring you the first part of a Death Korp of Krieg army. This is with out a doubt, the largest army we at Next Level Painting have done. This army is comprised not only of Forge World Death Korp of Krieg models, but countless Forge World tanks, conversion kits and some sisters of battle for taste. This army is so large that we have to split it up over two posts. It is just that big!

Converted Chaos Autocannon

Here is the first pics of my converted Chaos havoc with Autocannon. In our previous article I outlined the pieces I used for it. You can see the results are pretty good. The barrel of the Autocanon is longer than the standard Havoc model, but I feel that gives the model a certain "something." Next article will be an actual tutorial on how to make these.

More Fire Power! Autocannon Edition

Last week we discussed my thoughts with going back to Chaos, my first love. The list I posted had a lot of autocannons in it. 3 for the Imperial Guard allies and more importantly, 8 from the Chaos Havocs. The autocannon, while being my preferred long ranged firepower, is now worth its weight in gold. When GW went to Finecast, the single blisters of Havocs went the way of the Dodo. In other words, its $45 to get a box of Havocs and their is only 1 of each weapon in it. A far too costly endeavor to acquire the 8 required for my list.

Chaos Has Me Second Guessing Myself!

Kenny "3Skullz" here. This is actually the first time I have written anything on my own blog. I have relied on my former “project manager” Donovan, who moved on to bigger and better things, to write on here in the past, and my brother David to do so recently. Occasionally Rob Baer “MBG” from Spikeybits also writes articles for me. So I apologize in advance for my 5th grade writing skills.

Chaos has me Second Guessing Myself! That’s right, I have been worshiping the dark gods since 1999. I even have a huge 8 point star tattoo on my arm. Recently I have become known for daemons due to my performance with them over the last few GTs. Before that I was all about Nurgle marines. So much so that I had built a total of 7 different Death Guard armies. I recently built 2 super nasty daemon armies since 6th dropped. Though they both performed very well, I have decided to sell them both. I wont go into too much detail on my reasons why but lets just say “I go to way too many tournaments per year and don’t want to become known for net list building”. I have decided to start a new chaos army though. I will post my ideas and list thus far. I would love some feed back and advice.

Salamanders V. Space Wolves 2k

This week we have another Brawl between the Boucher Brothers. Ken from here at Next Level Painting was looking to extend his 6th edition wins against his bro, Dave from No Turtles Allowed. This match was to be epic as both players had true 6th edition lists and a very good understanding of the new rules and their many twists.

I'm Dreaming of a Green Christmas...GK/Cron Allies

Green Glows the Gauss Cannons as the song goes. Up this week is a an allied army of Necrons and Grey Knights. The army has been done with an electric green to tie the units together and to emphasis the Anime-esque/comic book nature of the numerous counts-as conversions that abound this army.

Lethal Lamenters

This week we have a line of Lethal Lamenters to show you. This army is a perfect example of our slogan, "Go Pro in Two Weeks." This commission was solely for painting, enabling us to finish the entire army in less than 2 weeks, so these bad boys can see the battlefield in no time!

Grey Knight Reinforcements

40k has been updated with 6th, and just as the edition has been refreshed, so should our armies! Here is a small reinforcement we did for a client  to update his army for 6th. This may be a small commission, but the importance is that the tedious work was done by our Slave Labor force, in the form of our Next Level Apprentice.

Thunder Hawk Gunship is Go!

 Click Picture to Open Gallery
On this hump day, we have a special treat for our followers; the finished pictures of the Thunder Hawk Gunship previewed in our last post. This massive model manhandles any other single model we have done in sheer size. The Thunder Hawk was painted in a neutral color scheme that blends well with any army, and has magnetized FW doors for Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Grey Knights and Space Wolves. The model also sports an amazing base that lifts it roughly 20" off the table. The model and base were assembled by Dave over at

6th Edition Grey Knights vs. Space Wolves

This is the first rematch between the Brothers Boucher after their first match up in 6th edition. After getting a good feel for the rules in the first game, this one proves to be more polished. As always between these 40k sluggers, no punches are ever pulled and no feelings spared. You can also check out Dave's blog at

6th edtion Dark Angels vs. Space Wolves

Here's the inaugural battle report to issue in the new 6th edition of Warhammer 40k recently released. There is a lot that has changed, and a lot that has stayed the same. The Brothers Boucher battle it out again in another match in their long running rivalry. They hold no quarter, and fight each other as only brothers can. You can also check out Dave's blog at:

40k American Team Champions

For the second year in a row, Wrecking/BoLs has repeated as Warhammer 40k American Team Champions. The team, made of members of the gaming clubs 40k Wrecking Crew and Bell of Lost Souls, made the trip out to Tennessee and had a great time at the tournament.

Our resident airbrush painter, Kenny Boucher, took his newly completed Space Wolves army and went undefeated through 6 rounds of play.  Just a month prior, he went 7-0 with them at WargamesCon in Austin. This is a really fun army to play and has plenty of great units.

You may have read how one of the Thunderwolf models was actually stolen while this army was on display at WargamesCon. Thank you to our friends over at Bell of Lost Souls for raising awareness, but nothing has turned up yet. If you see this model, be sure to contact us please.

Kenny has already started making up another one, and if you are interested in having a similar Space Wolves army commissioned, it can be yours for around $1700. Thanks for taking a look and happy gaming.

Necrons vs. Salamanders 1850 re-match

We did another take on the previous report of the WargamesCON raffle Necron army versus Space Marine Salamanders. This battle turned out very differently with some great maneuvers and match ups. Necrons gave up the first turn and made good use of the Solar pulse again. This time, the Terminators survived the Necron shooting and plowed through much of the army. Click below to see more pics from this battle.

If you are going to WargamesCON, you can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win this Necron army.

Necrons vs. Salamanders 1850 Battle Report

In anticipation of the upcoming WargamesCON in Austin later this month, we put the recently completed raffle army up against the Space Marine Salamanders. Necrons got the first turn and made good use of the Solar pulse to frustrate the Space Marine shooting by making it night fight. Spyders in the backfield kept making scarab bases, which eventually took out the Landraider and forced an emergency disembarkation for the Terminators and Vulcan. His squad got charged by the Lychguard, Crypteks, and Overlord making short work of them and securing the win.

If you are going to WargamesCON, you can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win this Necron army.

Necron raffle army for WargamesCON

Click picture to open the full gallery

This army is to be raffled off at the upcoming WargamesCon in Austin, Texas. After entertaining multiple ideas for the color scheme, we opted for a classical take on the traditional look. We chose a basic antique metal and Object Source Lighting effects for the army, along with temple ruins for the bases. The blue in the bases really contrasts well with the neutrality of the metals and the green highlights. This force is a good representation of the variety of models in the new Necron codex, and features many of the new sculpts. For a chance to win this army, you can pick up tickets here:

Strategic Space Wolves

Click picture to open the full gallery

This latest Space Wolves contingent began as a pet project for Kenny. The sculptor, Mr. Dandy, was at Adepticon and Kenny came home with a set of Battle-Wolf War Mounts. If you follow us on twitter (link to the right), you may have seen lots of work in progress pics of this army as it was being painted. The 3 Rhino tanks carry 3 squads of Grey Hunters, all backed up by 3 squads of Long Fangs. The Thunderwolf Cavalry and 2 Wolf Lords provide the metaphorical hammer with which to crush the enemy. Space Marine Salamanders Strike

Click picture to open the full gallery

Stepping up to the plate is this stunning Salamanders Space Marine army composed of some of the most characterful units in the Codex. These choices take full advantage of the Salamanders iconic flamer and melta weaponry. If you look closely at the Land Speeders you'll also see our new technique for magnetizing missile Launchers to the side. There is actually magnets inside the vehicle and for all the other weapons as well. This army was commissioned for a friend, so you'll probably see lots more of them at tournaments and on the tabletop. Click below for lots more pictures and thanks for checking us out!

Grey Knights Galore!

Click picture to open the full gallery

Here's our latest commission of over 4,000 points of Grey Knight Space Marines and Daemonhunter Inquisitor henchmen. This army contains a variety of troop types and units with all kinds of abilities. The toughest of the tough come in the form of 10 Paladin Terminators, each an individual hero. Behind them are Purifiers and Interceptors with Psycannons and Nemesis Halberds. Not to be outdone in firepower department, 3 Dreadnoughts provide long range support. Finally, Coteaz unlocks the ability to take multiple Henchmen squads as Troops. He rides in the Chimera with the Grandmaster and a squad of servitors with Powerfists, a surprisingly nasty counter assault element. Chaos Daemon Army Expanded

Click picture to open the full gallery

Longtime readers may remember this Daemon detachment being displayed a little over a year ago. This is Kenny's personal army that has made appearances at WargamesCon and Feast of Blades since then. What started as a Khorne only army has slowly expanded to include representatives from all the Chaos gods. The Fateweaver takes the place of the Bloodthirster, but often will still do as many wounds in combat. The resiliency he offers is compounded by the inclusion of Plaguebearers as troops. Slaanesh makes a big splash with both Seekers and Fiends adding a great deal of speed and tactical flexibility to the list. Adepticon 2012 Team tournament

Click picture to open the full gallery

All the boyz made it back home safe and sound. We're already hard at work on our next project. But in the meantime you can check out lots of pics from the Spikey Bits / 40k Wrecking Crew Team tournament army. Half of it stayed with Rob of Spikey Bits and the other half has already found a new home. The Team tournament allowed cross over rules between armies, so multiple Paladin Squads supported by multiple henchman squads could be used in the competition. The team didn't quite pull off the repeat victory, but had an awesome time and a lot of fun. Click the pic above to be sent to the Gallery with lots of close ups.

On the Road to Adepticon

Kenny's on the road to Chicago to compete at the annual Adepticon convention. He hopes to repeat as Team Champions with our buddies from the Wrecking Crew. Here are some pics of recent games including a little playtesting of a forthcoming army. We'll have more photos soon of this 4000 point Grey Knights Paladin heavy army. But for the time being check out these in game photos from the Chicago Battle Bunker and Adepticon.

Stormraven Squadron Sneak Peek

Here's a couple cool shots to whet your appetite of more things to come. They all sport magnetic resin turrets so they can swap out all the various weapon options. This custom chapter sports a unique color scheme and theme. Stay tuned for more exciting updates featuring this force.

Necrons Arise!

The new Necrons have arrived and our first swarm of undead robots take the field. This repeat customer had really admired the vibrant blue paint jobs on some of the Space Marine Librarians featured in previous galleries. So he decided to commission an entire army with the same stunning colors. In contrast to most Necron armies, there are no metallic paints used, just smooth blends and highlights throughout thanks to the airbrush. Be sure to click on the pic above to see close-ups of all these models and the unending Necron swarm.

Tyranid Alien Invasion

Click picture to open the full gallery

A refurbished Tyranid army is given the airbrush treatment to unleash its bloody visage. You may have seen some sneak peaks of this army on Terminus Est, the proud new owner of this menagerie of alien beasts. The models were originally primed, painted, and dipped in varnish. This obscured a lot of detail of the original models, but allowed us the opportunity to develop a particular paint scheme that would still look good. If you see this army in person, be sure to check out all the additional highlights throughout. Click the pic above to open the full gallery in another tab.
